TAHLEQUAH, OK 2019: Northeastern Health System’s Culinary and Nutrition Services recently opened another dining option for employees and surrounding community members called Park Place Café, located in the first floor lobby of the newly constructed Medical Park complex.
Park Place provides breakfast and lunch service, including RoseRock Coffee and hot sandwiches in the morning, as well as salad and sandwich options in the afternoon. Snacks such as fruit, trail mixes, muffins and cold sandwiches are also available during all hours of operation, from 7:00am to 2:00pm.
Made-to-order and customizable Dr. Smoothie brand blended drinks are also available throughout the day. Customers can choose to add protein powder, fresh fruits or greens to the 100% all natural fruit juice base mix.
“We’ve had staff request nutritious smoothies, and these definitely fill that need,” said Lois Fladie, Director of Culinary and Nutrition Services at Northeastern Health System. “These smoothies are a nutrient-packed, quick and great tasting drink.”
The cafe is just one of the projects that Northeastern Health System Administration proposed in an effort to prioritize employee health and wellness. The vision of Park Place is to provide healthful options in an efficient and enjoyable way.
“This is an opportunity for our staff to offer unique foods and try ideas we read about or see on cooking shows,” said Fladie. “Good cooks want a place to express themselves, and this is one of those places.”
While employees regularly utilize the hospital cafeteria located on the second floor of the main building, as well as the Starbucks kiosk, located on the first floor of the main building, Park Place makes the third on-campus dining option for Northeastern Health System. Service is meant to be quick and convenient while still providing healthful, tasty menu items.
“It’s amazing what this little spot can do with limited space and equipment,” commented one hospital staff member. “Just to watch these guys work is worth the walk.”
“The house-made dressings and build-your-own salad or sandwich options are also extremely popular with customers,” noted Joey Hooper, Culinary and Nutrition Service Assistant Chef. “We’re glad we got to add another spot with a little more variety to the hospital. Park Place makes it way easy to find something healthy, delicious and fresh.”
